High Notes

Houston artist Travis Hedemann of Young at Heart Art and his wife, Meredith, are still beaming over last weekend’s adventure in San Francisco, where they were the guests of San Francisco Opera general director David Gockley at opening-night festivities.
Gockley commissioned Hedemann to create a series of paintings saluting famous operas including Aida, Pagliacci, Madame Butterfly and Carmen. Reproduced as greeting cards and prints, they’re sold in the San Francisco Opera boutique.
After red-carpet cocktails at the opera house, the Hedemanns enjoyed the performance of Il Trovatore and a swank dinner dance in City Hall. They rubbed elbows with such notables as San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, Huffington Post founder Arianna Huffington, former Secretary of State George Shultz and Banana Republic honcho Jack Calhoun.
Hedemann also created thank-you cards from the paintings; they’ll be in gift bags for patrons at Houston Grand Opera’s opening-night gala Oct. 23.
